Mobile-First Etsy Descriptions: The 160-Character Rule

The majority of Etsy buyers shop on their phone, and most sellers still write desktop-era descriptions. Here's how to structure copy for the mobile screen.

Front-load the first 160 characters

That's roughly what shows before 'read more' on mobile, and Etsy weights it for SEO. Lead with your primary keyword and the core benefit in the opening line.

Short paragraphs, then bullets

Walls of text die on mobile. Use 2–3 sentence paragraphs, then bullet points for materials, sizing, and shipping so a shopper can scan in seconds.

Put the buying details where thumbs land

Sizing, care, and shipping questions cause abandoned carts. Answer them high up so a mobile shopper never has to hunt.
